Impact - The Golf Swing's Moment of truth

Impact is the moment of truth in the golf swing. It is the moment when the golf club contacts the golf ball. In order to hit a straight and solid shot, that flies long and true, three things must happen with the club at impact:

1. The center of the clubface must contact below the ball's equator.
2. The swing-path of the clubhead must be traveling straight along the target-line.
3. The blade angle of the club must be square to the target.

Although there are variances in swing techniques among professionals, they all arrive at impact basically the same. This position is universal and is necessary for solid and consistent golf shots. Six consistent things happen with the body at impact:

    • 80  to 90 % of the weight is on the left foot.
    • The hips are turned approximately 45 degrees.
    • The head is behind the ball.
    • The shoulders are turned left about 15 degrees.
    • The hands are slightly ahead of the ball.
    • The right heel is slightly off the ground.

To achieve this position consistently try these simple drillls frequently on the range.
